PRODUCTS USABLE IN AGRICULTURE / FOOD APPLICATIONS

In terms of legislation regarding food products, only the manufacturer is responsible for the food safety of consumers. In order to meet the demand of manufacturers of food products and to guarantee the safety of products and consumers, Molydal now offers a full range of Food-Grade lubricants.

Background:

In 1906, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration in the U.S) listed compounds for the formulation of lubricants that may come into contact with foods.

In 1998, the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) approved the lubricants that are suitable for contact with foods.

USDA H1 Lubricants

Food-Grade lubricants used in food-processing production when a risk of incidental contact with foods may occur.
USDA H2 Lubricants

Non-food quality lubricants used for equipment or sites where there is no risk of contact with foods.

USDA H3 Lubricants

Comestible Food-Grade lubricants, used to protect equipments from corrosion.

The present situation :

In December 1999, the US NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) launched a programme concerning regulations for food-quality compounds which are similar to the USDA’s certification.
A List of these products can be consulted on the Internet.

A product is approved when it complies the following 3 criteria :
